Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson is the daughter of British lawyers Jacqueline Luesby (born in Paris) and Chris Watson (born in Paris). At the age of five when she left for Oxfordshire and attended the Dragon School. Emma decided to be an actor at age six. For several years she was enrolled in the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts part-time school. There she learned singing dance, acting and singing. At the age of 10, she had appeared and played part in many Stagecoach productions as well as school plays. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone is the film from 2001 adaption from J.K. Rowling's bestselling book was cast in 1999. Emma was discovered as a casting agent by her Oxford teacher of drama. After eight consecutive auditions, director David Heyman told Emma and co-applicants Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint that they had been selected to play the three leads Hermione Granger Harry Potter and Ron Weasley. Emma's first film appearance came with the release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2002). The film set records for opening-day sales and opening-weekend takings as well as being the most-grossing feature of 2001. Reviewers have been highly lauding the film, as well as the performance of the three young actors. The well-known British publication The Daily Telegraph called her performances admirable. Emma was awarded the Young Artist Award as the Leading Young Actress for an feature Film. Emma was awarded five times for her performance in the movie.
